Hoarding Cleanup: A Compassionate Look at the Process
By Famous Pink Cleaning · Published October 15, 2026
Reaching out about a hoarding cleanup can be hard. Maybe it's your own home, maybe it's a parent's, or maybe you're helping a friend or settling a loved one's estate. Whatever brought you here, you don't owe anyone an explanation. Our job is to help, respectfully and without judgment. Here's what the process looks like with Famous Pink Cleaning so you know what to expect.
Our approach: respect first
Homes reach this point for many reasons, and none of them make the people involved less deserving of care. We treat every home and every person with dignity. That means:
- No judgment. We're there to work, not comment.
- You stay in control. Nothing is thrown away without your written authorization.
- Clear communication. We explain each step and the price before work begins.
- Discretion. We treat your situation as private.
Step 1: Reach out
Call, text, or send a quote request. We'll ask some basic questions: the property address, approximate square footage, and what you'd like help with. You don't need to have everything figured out. Photos or a short video can help us prepare, but they're optional, and they don't replace the visit.
Step 2: The onsite assessment
For commercial, post-construction, and hoarding cleaning, we require an onsite assessment before providing a final quote or confirming a cleaning date. This allows us to evaluate the property and determine the appropriate scope, team, and equipment. We can schedule your assessment first.
During the visit, we'll walk through the home with you or your representative, listen to your goals, and note what the job will need: how many people, how much time, and what supplies and equipment.
Step 3: Your quote and written authorization
After the assessment, we prepare your quote. Before any items are removed, we'll get your written authorization identifying what may be discarded. This protects you and makes sure keepsakes, documents, and anything else that matters stays where it belongs.
Your cleaning date is confirmed once you accept the quote and we've confirmed our team's availability.
Step 4: The cleanup
On cleaning day, our team works through the home according to the plan you approved. If we find something that wasn't part of the plan, we'll stop and talk with you before going further. Any additional work is quoted for your approval before it begins.
What it costs
Every hoarding cleanup is different, so pricing is set after the onsite assessment. As a general guide, light clutter assessments typically fall in the $800–$1,500 range. That's not a guaranteed price. Larger or more involved jobs cost more, and your final quote depends on what the assessment shows. You can see this range on our pricing page.
Cleaning services start at the prices shown. Final pricing depends on square footage, property condition, cleaning frequency, and requested services. Additional work will be quoted for approval before it begins.
A $50 booking deposit, applied toward your service balance, secures your appointment.
What we don't handle
Some conditions need a specialist. If a home has severe contamination or hazardous conditions, such as biohazards, mold, or asbestos, we'll talk with you about next steps, and those situations need a specialist assessment and custom quote. We'd rather be upfront than take on work that needs different expertise.
Helping a loved one
If you're arranging a cleanup for a family member, a few things help:
- Involve them where you can. Being part of the decisions often makes the process easier.
- Decide who signs the discard authorization before cleaning day.
- Set aside important papers and keepsakes you already know about, or tell us what to look for.
- Be patient with yourself. This is emotional work, and it's okay to take it one step at a time.
